DistributedAgile

To quote ThoughtWorks web site:

'Distributed Agile: an Agile development approach we engineered to specifically address the needs of distributed teams that span time zones.'

See paper MartinFowler's site

I am curious about what people think about DistributedAgile ? Can we use technology to support agile practices for distributed teams ? Or is splitting teams across sites so contrary to agile principles mean that you should not apply the term agile ? Any experiences to report here ? - RachelDavies

Apparently there's a few different categories:
  • One team, with each member working at remote locations
  • One team, with one member working remotely
  • Several teams dispersed, but within each team they're co-located. (Possible opportunities for offshoring work here.)

AllanWills? recently gave a talk about his experiences of Dispersed Agile Development. Here are some pointers:

  • http://www.bcs-oops.org.uk/cgi-bin/view/OOPS/MeetingNotes - ImmoHuneke's comprehensive notes
  • http://www.dafydd.net/blog/entries/20031105.html - a few points I took away from it
