Does agile modelling differ from 'regular' modelling by recognising that modelling (as an activity) is a means to an end, rather than an end in itself? (TimBacon) I use models as a communication tool, or as a way of exploring an idea or problem -- but there are other ways of communicating, and other ways of exploring...

In his book AgileModelling, Scott W. Ambler answers precisely this point. His position is that models are used as communication devices, helping clarify a specific issue at a given point in time. If the model proves to be useful in a different context, then it can be persisted (becomes burdensome documentation).
