We don't have any way of demonstrating the merits of XP in the form of code or practice. Xtc is a classic example of the cobbler's children having no shoes. The technology we've chosen for our online presence isn't agile or built according to XP practices. Therefore I suggest that we devise an XtcProject to build a replacement which embodies XP principles, demonstrates our values (in terms of TestDrivenDevelopment, PairProgramming, CollectiveOwnership? etc) and gives us a shared codebase for ongoing experimentation. We could build it in iterations during the usual Tuesday meeting and perhaps submit it AgiliaDotOrg. And it doesn't have to be YetAnotherWiki?.
The benefits might include:
- New visitors could pair with someone as they add functionality to the project.
- We would have a ongoing body of code for disseminating best practices and applying patterns. (For example we could work out ideas on how exactly you should create a JUnit TestCase in version 3.8.1 since a lot of the scaffolding like suite methods people used to cut and paste isn't necessary any more).
- It might be fun to write some code together.
