Hi , I am thinking of starting an Xp group in Edinburgh quite similar to Xtc and was wondering if you could offer me some advice on how to go about it. Also, I noticed that you guys have a chapter in Brisbane. Is it possible to start a chapter in Edinburgh that is affliated with Xtc? I am just starting to get into XP properly, having finished reading some of the introductory books, going to Agile Scotland meetings and a TDD seminar and having used a couple of test frameworks. So another question would be, what's the best approach of starting XP properly? (I've also got some hands on books like David Astels 'TDD a practical guide', M Fowler 'Refactoring', etc..) Cheers Abdel A Saleh e: Hi Abdel, welcome. To be honest we just started by going down to the pub and talking about XP. Xtc is very beer centric. So find a nice pub that's fairly central, but not too busy. Power sockets will come in handy and a function room is useful if you have guest speakers. I should think you'll find quite a few people in Edinburgh. Feel free to advertise your events here, you may also want to announce the first meeting on the XP events yahoo group. With respect to starting XP properly, take a look at GettingStarted, StartingXpFaq, GettingUpToSpeedWithXP. Hi, thanks for the encouragement and tips above. I have publicised my intentions on the XP events and Agile Scotland yahoo groups. Hopefully, interested individuals will come forward and we can organise an Edinburgh Xtc kickoff meeting. I was wondering if I could also advertise the same post here, and if I could, where would do I go about posting it (on which page)? Any Londoners fancy a trip to Scotland to do the blessing -- OliBye Thanks again for all your help. Hi, I have been meaning to give you an update with the state of the above for the past 5 months now but I have been fairly busy. Alot has happened. Well, Last May (can't remember the exact date) we managed to start our own edinburgh based XP group, eXtreme Wednesdays -- yup its on a Wednesday :), with the help of our dear Agile Scotland colleagues. The group and attendance has grown quite alot to the extent that we currently have our own Wiki and mailing list. We were quite lucky to have some experienced XP practitioners join in. They helped mentor the rest of us and we managed to run the XP basics for about 8 weeks, where we included the Planning game, Pair Programming and TDD. Now we run the sessions weekly with various problems and ideas to explore. I have added below links to our Wiki and mailing list. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that all development is in Java (and yup we do also have the crowd that hates Ejbs).
Again, thanks for the help. Cheers, Abdel A Saleh
