From http://www.ruby-lang.org/en/whats.html: "Ruby is the interpreted scripting language for quick and easy object-oriented programming. It has many features to process text files and to do system management tasks (as in Perl). It is simple, straight-forward, extensible, and portable. Oh, I need to mention, it's totally free, which means not only free of charge, but also freedom to use, copy, modify, and distribute it." http://www02.so-net.ne.jp/~greentea/ruby/ says "Ruby is more open than Smalltalk. Ruby is more elegant than Perl. So: Ruby > (Smalltalk + Perl) / 2 is true." I don't understand. Why is Ruby more open than Smalltalk? ErnestoGuisado: I think he means Ruby is OpenSource?, while most people use commercial versions of Smalltalk. On the other side there is GNU Smalltalk and Squeak, so you're right it might not be more open. I only mentioned the formula, because having used Smalltalk before, I felt that Ruby will definitelly appeal to any Smalltalk afficionados out there. The PragmmaticProgrammers? have set up a site here http://www.rubycentral.com/ and a Wiki here http://www.rubygarden.org/ruby?HomePage. They have also written the Ruby book which you can read here http://www.pragmaticprogrammer.com/ruby/index.html. ³host³³date³July 25, 2001³agent³Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.01; Windows NT 5.0)³RubyLanguage
