SuSE? update kills workstation

SuSE? watch has updated my kernel on my workstation, and now it doesn't boot. The problem has been described on lists in december. It looks like the dodgey patch is still lying about.

This was easy to resolve with GRUB. In the original kernal boot log The initial error had complained "should be 2.6.8-24.13-smp". So I edited the initrd boot parameter to be:

initrd (hd0,2)/boot/initrd-2.6.8-24.13-smp

This booted fine (others may have different disks and paths). Then I had to correct the symlink as detailed in the problem post above. I also added an entry that doesn't use the symlinks, so this can't happen again (unless the kernel and initrd are deleted!).

I may consider asking for the funds from XTC to buy storix (459 USD). I've liked storix so far. Need to test a full system restore though.
