JSPWiki v2.0.52

CssZenGarden

As well as the regular geek-ness, tonight we're planning to discuss the use of modern Web Standards in Web Design (eg XHTML & CSS). Now I know that most of us aren't Designers, (we're even proud of the fact that our GUIs consist of grey buttons and down-the-page layout). But a lot of us have influence over the development of Web Applications, and it's important that we're aware of the benefits to adopting a standards-based approach to we design.

The benefits to this approach are varied: better accessibility, sites that degrade elegantly under different rendering environments (think Palm pilots and screen readers), and better separation of content from presentation, etc.

Anyway, if this interests you - come along and have a chat. Then again, if this stuff bores you to tears, come along and shout me down and we can discuss compiler design..... Interesting points

  • website: http://www.csszengarden.com/
  • navigatiing CssZenGarden via http://csszengarden.coret.org/
  • no tables or images are in the HTML
  • all designs are done using CSS only
  • has implications for accessability and maintenence
