NEWS: SUBMITTED 17/9/01

Title: TracerBullets

One-line description: Evolving your cognitive model. Ready - fire - aim.

Abstract: (for publication) Is not about hitting a target, its about constantly checking your going in the right direction. It should be better to try early and take small steps to improve your aim.

Audience Background: Developers, project managers, analysts who want to discover an evolutionary path. Note: Those who attended TracerBullets last year are advised NOT to take part.

Session Format: Workshop, duration 150 mins, limited to 30 attendees.

Materials: that we provide: all materials for team exercises. We need OT2002 to provide a projector and flipcharts (a few)

Benefits of Participant:

Tracer bullets assist a team in following an evolutionary path towards a solution. The principle provides a metric that may be used to measure progress and an indicator as to the next step.

Process: We will investigate, in a non-software environment, the practical application of this principle. The workshop will be structured around a number of activities in the style of the "Great Egg Race" with simple rules, interspersed with reflection and a small presentation. During the workshop we will discuss the principle of tracer bullets and through a process of reflection we will draw conclusions relating this to the process of software development.

Timetable: As per OT2001, two exercises approx 40 mins long with 10 mins reflection then 10 mins summary after each. 15 min presentation half way thru.

Output: Single flip chart listing lessons learnt; what can we apply back to real software development?

History: Workshop as per OT2001, with some minor revisions to emphasize refining your model, based on feedback from last year.
