Meeting Tuesday 23rd November 1999

Only SteveFreeman and OliBye turned up, and having done XP all day at work, we just enjoyed a pint of SpitFire? and discussed WAP Phones. Paul was on holiday and some of last weeks work is on his laptop. I'll try to remind people to mail me the code drops on the wednesday so I can put them in CVS, I'm getting a bit behind with that at the moment due to ADSL being down and starting my own company.
Agenda

OliBye is interested in trying SmallTalk, IvanMoore is always going on about it. I have a laptop with Squeak and Dolphin on it. Why not try porting the lens to SmallTalk I feel that learning a new language would be a good thing to do at XtC.

I don't wish to be facetious, but "where's the UserStory for it?" and "How are you going to test that?" apply to deciding to learn a new language. I haven't managed to attend any meetings yet, but I would be disappointed if you abandon DoingXP? for something that frivolous. --FrankCarver

Surely learning new technologies is not necessarily frivolous? Especially, given the role of Smalltalk in the evolution of XP. After all, the principal UserStory (Metaphor? - OliBye) for the XtC is to entertain ourselves. -- SteveFreeman

I would classify Smalltalk as a language and not a technology. I don't see the XP benefit in porting something to Smalltalk. Neither does OliBye that's why he's interested in learning SmallTalk from people who say there is benefit in using it, the evidence of my findings will be posted here.

PaulS sends his apologies - he will be enjoying the ExtremeHeat? of Gambia. I don't want to hear about that ;-) --sf
